First, you need a separate place for personal papers and business papers. About the only personal papers you need for sure are bills and receipts and possibly a couple file folders for interesting articles you may want to keep. Also, make a file folder for important papers for personal use and keep warranties, receipts, purchase papers, social security reports, pay check stubs, things of that nature. You will need another file for the 1040’s IRS forms and things like copies of social security cards, marriage license, kid’s birth certificates, your birth certificate as well as you husband’s social security card, etc. Beside your computer, put a file holder with files of current projects you are working on. The method described here works very well, but find what works for you and keep your time spent on what matters most which is working your business. Put business cards, floppy discs, cd discs, business magazines in holders, copy paper, brochures, cell phone adapters and covers, business check books, etc. Take the top shelf and put in business books, inspirational books, and other books that you like to keep on hand. How about purchasing some ready made shelves?
